A friend of mine recommended this book while I was searching for books to illustrate as my experimental project:

I finished the four books in 6 months fitfully: in the tube, on the bus, before bed. The books are very absorbing for it has gripped so many great swathes of people filled with abundant and generous descriptions from their exterior to the interior and their living environment, and they endow fullness of life and vivid scenes of the neighborhood, the city, the country.
